A round table on the topic: ‘Current Issues of Modern Legal Science and Practice under Martial Law’ was held at KUL NASU

On the eve Lawyer’s Day On October 7, 2024, a round table on the topic: “Current Issues of Modern Legal Science and Practice in the Conditions of Martial Law” was held at the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

With a welcoming speech addressed to the applicants and attendees, spoke Anatoliy ZAHORODNIY – The President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician of the NAS of Ukraine, emphasizing that science must be a bearer of peace and development, a driving force of human progress.

Crisis phenomena in society negatively affect the progress of science. Under such circumstances, undoubtedly, the primary task for Ukraine is not only to preserve but also to increase scientific potential. During a state of war, addressing urgent issues of protecting war victims, legal protection of affected populations, and compensating for damages is on the agenda of every state institution and every scientific institution. Anatoliy Hlibovych wished for young people to never lose optimism, to do good, and to confidently pursue their goals.

Rector of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Professor Yuriy Boshytskyi, noted that traditionally on the occasion of Lawyer’s Day, the University holds scientific and practical events to discuss current issues of the present. Thanks to our defenders, we have the opportunity at such events to communicate and share experiences.

The applicants were also welcomed by the teaching staff of the University: 

  • Ivan KAILO, Vice-Rector for Research at KUL NASU, Doctor of Law, Professor;
  • Ruslan CHORNOLUTSKYI, Professor of the Department of International Law and Branch Legal Disciplines at KUL of NASU, Doctor of Juridical Science.
  • Svitlana FURSA, Head of the Department of International Law and Sectoral Legal Disciplines at KUL NASU, Doctor of Juridical Science, Professor;
  • Valeriy ANDRUSIV, Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Process at KUL NASU, PhD in Law;
  • Mykola MALIY, head of the legal clinic KUL NASU “Phoenix” and others    
  • Event moderator: Head of the postgraduate program, PhD in Law, Associate Professor Raisa Perelygina. 

Practical postgraduate students prepared substantive reports. A lively discussion took place. It is worth noting that holding such events contributes to increasing the effectiveness and quality of scientific research, supporting connections in the scientific field among teachers and young scientists, organizing scientific research, improving the presentation, discussion, and use of their results.

The best graduate students were awarded Certificates by the Rector of the University, Yuriy Boshytskyi, for active participation in the scientific and social life of the university and for academic achievements!

Based on the results of the round table, a collection of materials will be published.
