Academic Council

The Academic Council is the collegial governing body of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. In accordance with the University Statute, it considers the most important matters concerning the University’s activities and the implementation of Ukrainian state policy in education and science.

  • Determines the strategy and prospective areas for developing the University’s educational, research, and innovation activities.
  • Submits the draft Statute and any amendments or additions to the highest collegial body of public self-government.
  • Defines the system and approves procedures for internal quality assurance in higher education.
  • Elects department heads, professors, associate professors, the head of the library, and heads of separate structural units through a competitive secret ballot.
  • Reviews reports from department heads upon the expiry of their terms of office.
  • Decides by secret ballot on awarding the academic titles of Associate Professor and Professor.
  • Decides on awarding the honorary titles “Honorary Professor of Kyiv University of Law” and “Honorary Doctor of Kyiv University of Law”.
  • Considers the current state and development of the University’s educational, academic-methodological, research, and international activities.
  • Considers the training of academic staff and the operation of postgraduate studies.
  • Reviews and approves dissertation topics for the Doctor of Philosophy degree.
  • Considers the preparation and publication of monographs, textbooks, teaching aids, and other research and academic-methodological literature.
  • Considers nominating University staff for state prizes, awards, and distinctions.
  • Decides on the organization of the educational process.
  • Decides on the creation, reorganization, and dissolution of structural units.
  • Reviews reports on the state of affairs in the University’s structural units, including separate structural units.
  • Reviews and approves educational programmes and curricula.
  • Approves the format and production procedure for higher education documents, including joint and double degrees.
  • Considers the quality of graduates’ professional training and its further improvement.
  • Considers cooperation with student self-government bodies.
  • Reviews and approves the University’s financial plan.
  • Reviews and approves the report on the University’s financial and economic performance.
  • Considers the condition of the facilities and equipment, the efficiency of their use, and development prospects.
  • Considers the current state and development prospects of the University’s social infrastructure.
  • Reviews and approves annual professional-development plans for teaching staff.
  • Approves the University Admissions Regulations.
  • Reviews and approves regulations governing the University’s working and advisory bodies.
  • Considers other matters relating to the University’s activities in accordance with its Statute and the Law of Ukraine “On Higher Education”.
