About the Centre
The International Centre for Legal and Socioeconomic Studies of Central and Eastern European Countries at Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine in Uzhhorod is a separate structural unit of the University. It operates as an integral part of the higher education institution’s educational, academic, and research activities.
The Centre’s principal objectives are the comprehensive study of current issues relating to the development and expansion of cooperation with Central and Eastern European countries in legal, economic, educational, academic, cultural, and other social fields. The Centre also focuses on opportunities for cross-border cooperation and various legal-regulation issues, including intellectual property law, and studies and analyses migration processes and the overall social and humanitarian development of Central and Eastern European countries.
The purpose of these principal areas of activity is to study and analyse the successful experience of Central and Eastern European countries in key social fields and, on that basis, develop evidence-based proposals for amendments and additions to Ukrainian legislation that would promote its harmonisation with the European legal framework.
An important part of the work of the International Centre for Legal and Socioeconomic Studies of Central and Eastern European Countries at Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is promoting and disseminating legal knowledge among the region’s population and conducting educational, sociocultural, and career-guidance activities aimed primarily at the younger generation of Zakarpattia. Close cooperation between the Centre, local state authorities, and local self-government bodies supports these important public initiatives. This mutually beneficial work has resulted in cooperation agreements between Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and educational institutions in the region. Their pupils participate in joint academic and cultural events—including conferences, round tables, seminars, and training sessions—held online and in person using the Centre’s facilities, with representatives of academic and cultural communities from Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Czechia, Austria, and other countries.
Under these cooperation agreements, Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine helps update the library collections of regional schools with legal literature, including academic publications authored by members of the University’s academic staff and researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Close cooperation between Kyiv University of Law and educational institutions in Zakarpattia helps inform young people about the opportunities and prospects for pursuing higher education at this University in the capital.
