Day of the State Emblem of Ukraine

On February 19, Ukraine celebrates State Emblem Day — one of the main symbols of our strength, continuity, unity, and statehood. It was on this day in 1992 that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved the Small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine — the trident as the official symbol of independent Ukraine.

History Trident It has lasted for centuries and has deep historical roots. Its image was used by Prince Volodymyr the Great as a family emblem of the state of Rus. The symbol was minted on coins, seals, and flags, symbolizing power, statehood, and the continuity of traditions.

In the 20th century, the trident became the emblem of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, and with the restoration of independence in 1991, it returned again as the state symbol of modern Ukraine.

In the conditions of a full-scale war, state symbols have acquired special significance. Today, the Trident is not only an element of official attire, but also a symbol of resilience, freedom, and the fight for the future. It unites military personnel and civilians, students and teachers, scientists and university staff around a common goal — preserving the state, its culture, and identity. It can be seen not only on official documents and buildings, but also on the insignia of defenders, volunteer initiatives, student projects, and scientific research. It has become a symbol of dignity, responsibility, and love for Ukraine!

For the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Day of the State Emblem is a reminder of the responsibility of each of us. Education and science form the intellectual potential of the country, and respect for state symbols and one’s own history strengthens national unity. May the State Emblem of Ukraine inspire us to productive work, mutual support, and faith in Victory!
