
Dialogues with famous people: meeting with the Deputy Chair of the International Commercial Arbitration Court, a member of the Commission on Legal Reform Issues under the President of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer Inna Yemelyanova
On November 6, 2025, as part of the implementation of the university project “Dialogues with Famous Personalities,” initiated and supported by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the university Vladimir Pylypenko For the students of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, there was a lecture-meeting with the Deputy Chairperson of the International Commercial Arbitration Court and the Maritime Arbitration Commission at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine, a member of the Commission on Legal Reform under the President of Ukraine, and an Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Inna Yemelyanova.
Before the lecture-meeting, lecturers and students of the Rivne Institute of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the leadership of the institute director also joined. Stefaniia Ukrainian.
During the meeting, Ms. Inna gave a lecture on the topic “The Role and Place of the International Commercial Arbitration Court under the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine in Resolving Commercial Disputes”, within which she told the students about the features of foreign economic disputes, the specifics of international arbitration, its advantages and opportunities compared to traditional court proceedings.
The lecturer paid special attention to the issue of substantive law, which regulates foreign economic contracts. She explained that the parties to international commercial agreements can independently choose the law that will apply to their obligations, and in its absence, the dispute is resolved based on the conflict of laws rules and principles of private international law.
In addition, Ms. Inna focused in detail on the topics of arbitration agreements and mediation in arbitration, emphasizing the importance of alternative dispute resolution methods in international commercial practice.
The meeting took place in a warm atmosphere of lively dialogue, during which students had the opportunity to ask questions, discuss practical aspects of arbitration proceedings, and receive valuable advice from a leading expert in the field of international commercial law.
At the end of the scientific and educational event, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Volodymyr Pylypenko thanked the speaker for the informative lecture, interesting practical examples, and professional advice for future lawyers, and emphasized the importance of such meetings for shaping the legal awareness of future lawyers.
