Future international lawyers attended a lecture by judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine

Applicants for higher education of the second (master’s) level in the specialty 293 ‘International Law’ together with the rector’s advisor, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Iryna Sopilko joined the online lecture of the judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Halyna Yurovska, Viktor Horodovenko and Oleh Pervomaiskyi.

At the center of the discussion was the Decision of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine dated September 10, 2025 No. 4-r(II)/2025 in the case regarding a constitutional complaint Vyacheslav Pleskach Regarding the compliance of part three of Article 57 of the Law of Ukraine “On Advocacy and Advocacy Activity” with the Constitution of Ukraine, the Court concluded that the provision complies with the Constitution of Ukraine, while emphasizing the need to ensure the openness and accessibility of the acts of the bodies of advocacy self-governance.

The judges emphasized that the profession of a lawyer is an integral element of the justice system, as it is the lawyer who first comes into contact with a person in need of legal protection. They also reminded that the European Court of Human Rights consistently upholds the important role of lawyers in the judicial system in its practice, highlighting their mission – to protect the rights and interests of participants in court proceedings. The lecture provided examples of ECHR decisions that confirm the key role of the legal profession in ensuring the right to a fair trial.

For master’s students, such a lecture became a valuable educational experience: they were able to directly hear the position of the judges of the Constitutional Court on complex legal issues, as well as see how the Ukrainian legal system integrates into the European legal space. Such meetings form an understanding of the high standards of the profession in future lawyers and contribute to the upbringing of a generation of lawyers capable of defending human rights at the national and international levels.
