Heroes of Ukraine Day
May 23 is celebrated Ukrainian heroes of all times, starting from Kievan Rus – princely knights, Cossacks, Sich Riflemen, insurgents, participants of the UNR and UPA, ATO veterans, and, of course, our defenders who are today fighting on the front for the peaceful future of Ukraine.
Heroes’ Day was founded May 23, 1941 By the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists, in order to commemorate the memory of the prominent Ukrainian nationalist Yevhen Konovalets. Later, this date became a symbol of honoring all fighters for the freedom of Ukraine, a national Ukrainian holiday in honor of the fighters for the will and independence of our state.
People who completely placed their lives on the scales of the freedom of the Ukrainian people existed at different times in the formation of our state. Starting from the times of Kievan Rus, the Zaporizhian Sich and the Hetmanate, during the years of the existence of the Ukrainian People’s Republic, and the heroic times of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Ukraine remained on the map of the world thanks to its Heroes.
Thousands of new heroes have appeared in recent years, when Ukraine suffered a brutal aggressive attack from a neighboring country. Today, the ranks of heroes are daily replenished by the heroes of the present, who, without sparing their own lives, fight for peace, prosperity, and the integrity of our state, for the lives of their fellow citizens.
The Ukrainian people sincerely thank their heroes; we bow our heads before the courage and bravery of the giants who defended and still defend our state. Our boundless gratitude and respect go to the living heroes, and the memory of the fallen will live forever in our hearts.
Happy Heroes of Ukraine Day!
