KUL NASU students – participants of the international scientific conference ‘Security and Cooperation in Europe’

2 June 2025 year took place International scientific conference “Safety and cooperation in Europe“ («Cooperation and Security in Europe»), organized by the Forum of Young Diplomats of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (Forum of Young Diplomats, International Relations Scientific Circle at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University).

The conference brought together young researchers, students, and graduate students from leading universities in Poland, Ukraine, and other European countries. The event took place online. The main thematic focus was on contemporary challenges in the field of security, international law, human rights, and geopolitics.

Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine acted as a co-organizer of the conference, and our students and graduate students actively participated in the scientific discussions .
Their presentations were delivered within the Ukrainian language block (panels 2A and 3B) and highlighted current challenges for international law and security in the context of the war in Ukraine.

Aliona Andrushchenko, Markiyan Lytvyn, Mykyta Nosulko, and Oleksandra Luniova, As representatives of student self-government, they joined the organizational committee of the conference. Together with students from other higher education institutions, they organized this conference at a high level.  

Ivan Kaylo, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work of KUL NASU, Doctor of Law, and Ivan Servetsky, a professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure, Doctor of Law, were members of the scientific council of the conference.

Markiyan Lytvyn He also served as a moderator for two English-language panels.

The reports of our students and postgraduate student became a worthy representation of the university at the scientific conference, demonstrating a high level of preparation, research interest, and academic maturity of the participants:

Roman Zakharchuk, graduate student — Improving international legal norms to combat acoustic terrorism in modern conflicts. The researcher analyzed an insufficiently studied, and therefore unregulated in international law, problem of the use of sound terror by the occupier, emphasizing its threat to the civilian population and proposing ways of regulatory improvement.

Markiyan Lytvyn, 4th-year student — Transnational Anti-Corruption Activity. The report characterized modern approaches to combating corruption in Ukraine, taking into account the activities of international institutions in Ukraine and abroad.

Alona Andrushchenko, 2nd-year student — “Problems of Protecting Human Rights by a Lawyer During Martial Law”. The speech addressed the challenges faced by lawyers in the context of the legal regime of martial law in Ukraine, including adherence to guarantees for legal assistance under conditions of restricted rights.

Scientific weight and significance of participation

The conference became a platform for interdisciplinary exchange of ideas among young researchers from different countries. The participation of KUL NASU students and postgraduate students indicates a high level of academic preparation and active engagement in current international discussions.
