Participation of representatives of the ‘Phoenix’ Legal Clinic of KUL NASU in the All-Ukrainian Scientific and Practical Seminar ‘Problems of Preventing Corruption During the War and in the Post-War Period’
On November 8, 2024, representatives of the legal clinic Phoenix KUL NASU, who are currently undergoing professional practice, participated in the All-Ukrainian scientific-practical seminar Problems of preventing corruption during the war and in the post-war period.
The event was jointly organized by the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine, the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology of the Faculty of Training Specialists for Pre-Trial Investigation Bodies of the National Police of Ukraine at Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs, and the Educational and Scientific Institute of Law and Innovative Education of Dnipro State University of Internal Affairs.
The main purpose of holding this event is the urgent need to develop fundamental and applied scientific research aimed at solving pressing problems of criminal law and criminology under the conditions of the legal regime of martial law and in the post-war period.
During the scientific and practical seminar, a number of important thematic directions were discussed, namely: criminal procedural counteraction to corruption; the current state and problematic issues in the prevention and counteraction of corruption in Ukraine; forensic and operational-investigative support of law enforcement agencies’ activities in countering corruption; and others.
It is indisputable that higher legal education students have learned about the new challenges of today, caused by the implementation of the legal regime of martial law in Ukraine, as well as about specific corruption risks that require prompt response from the relevant law enforcement agencies.
It is obvious that at this seminar they discussed not only the administrative and legal methods of combating corruption, which are important in wartime when a quick and flexible legal response to corruption threats is needed. Special attention was also paid to issues of integrity and the prevention of conflicts of interest among civil servants, as their activities should be transparent and necessarily accountable.
Participation in the scientific and practical seminar provided students not only with modern, relevant knowledge but also with practical skills that they will be able to apply in their future professional activities. Studying these issues in the context of war allows for the formation of a new generation of lawyers ready for the new challenges of rebuilding our country, strengthening the legal system, and statehood in general.
