About the University

Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was established in 1995 on the basis of the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

It is one of Ukraine’s most respected leading educational institutions and the country’s only educational institution administered by the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Form of ownership– state-owned (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine).

Kyiv University of Law is the successor to the Higher School of Law at the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law. Its approach integrates legal education with fundamental theoretical research in law.

Core subjects are taught by leading researchers of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, including one academician, four corresponding members of the Academy, 20 Doctors of Science, and more than 60 PhDs, associate professors, and teaching assistants.
Drawing on extensive teaching experience, these scholars seek to pass their knowledge to the next generation. This approach made it possible to establish a higher legal education institution where students gain knowledge and experience through an effective combination of fundamental scholarship and education.

The Honorary Rector of Kyiv University of Law is an Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Yurii Shemshuchenko – a distinguished scholar and organiser of legal research in Ukraine.

Kyiv University of Law comprises three departments headed by leading scholars, Doctors of Science, and PhDs. In 2001, a military department was opened to train students under the reserve officer programme.

In Rivne,an Institute was established, offering both first and second degrees in law.

Kyiv University of Law trains highly qualified lawyers for government and law-enforcement bodies, the market economy, and research institutions. Its fourth-level accreditation enables graduates to receive state-recognised Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.

• Based on a Junior Specialist qualification in a related speciality –2 years 10 months.
• Based on a Junior Specialist or Specialist qualification, or a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in another speciality –2 years 10 months.

Second (Master’s) Cycle

• 1 year 4 months (081 “Law”)
• 1 year 10 months (293 “International Law”)

Third (Educational and Research) Cycle

• 4 years.
