University Celebrates Its Research Library on All-Ukrainian Library Day

September 30, 2026

On 30 September, Ukraine celebrates All-Ukrainian Library Day — a holiday established in 1998 to recognise the important contribution libraries make to the country’s education, research and culture.

Ukraine’s library tradition has deep roots. A chronicle dating to 1037 records Yaroslav the Wise’s book collection at Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, one of the oldest known libraries in Ukrainian lands. Libraries have remained centres of knowledge and culture ever since, preserving not only books but also the nation’s intellectual memory for future generations.

The Research Library has always held a special place in the life of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Generations of students, postgraduate researchers, lecturers and scholars have used its reading room to learn, investigate, carry out research and exchange ideas. It has had a distinctive intellectual life of its own. The war has changed the University’s familiar rhythms. Today, the Library is quieter, but it remains active and continues its important mission. Lectures, meetings and academic and cultural events still take place here, and the books continue to await their readers.

We offer particular thanks to the Head of the Research Library, Tetiana Yuriivna Yaroshevska , and librarian Valentyna Yevhenivna Sakhnik, who have worked conscientiously at the University for many years, preserving its collections and ensuring every day that the Library remains a living part of the University community.

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for your work, professionalism and dedication to librarianship, for preserving our literary and cultural heritage, and for the important role you play in University life.

We wish you new acquisitions, engaging projects, professional inspiration and appreciative readers, together with many rewarding encounters, positive experiences and opportunities to develop your work.

May your work bring fulfilment, and may each new day give you strength, confidence and reasons to take pride in your achievements. We wish you good health, warmth, well-being, harmony and peace.

May the time soon come when the Library’s reading room is once again filled with the voices of students and lecturers, scholarly debate, meetings and new discoveries.

Happy Library Day! We wish you peace, kindness and many new pages in the shared history of our University!
