The collection examines the preservation and sustainable development of the natural-resource and ethnocultural cross-border potential of the Hutsul region in Ukraine and Romania. It includes materials on the environmental impact on the preservation of Hutsul ethnoculture and studies of the distinctive mountain conditions affecting socioeconomic activity, employment, and cultural life amid globalisation. Particular attention is given to preparing a nomination dossier for the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity under the working title “Cultural Practices and the Uniqueness of Hutsul Folklore in Ukraine and Romania through Cross-Border Cooperation”; interaction between sites protected under the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage; and the establishment of a cross-border Ukrainian-Romanian biosphere reserve in the Maramureș Mountains.

The collective monograph examines contemporary trends in the development, operation, and reform of criminal justice in Ukraine and ways to improve its effectiveness. In particular, it considers improvements to the principal criminal-justice institutions and to measures for countering specific types of crime. It proposes amendments to criminal and criminal-procedure legislation to improve their effectiveness in combating crime.

The publication is the result of scholarly cooperation between Kyiv University of Law and the V. M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law, both of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
