Scientists of KUL NASU took part in a round table on the topic: ‘Legal and social aspects of the implementation of military personnel’s right to trade union membership’
On November 21, 2024, scientists of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on behalf of the rector, professor, honored lawyer of Ukraine Yuriy BOSHYTSKYI as part of a delegation led by the advisor to the rector of KUL NASU, a member of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine Iryna SOPILKO and the head of the legal clinic ‘Phoenix’ of KUL NASU, Doctor of Philosophy in Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure Mykola MALIY took part in the work of the round table on the topic “Legal and social aspects of the implementation of servicemen’s right to trade union membership.”
Head of the All-Ukrainian Union of Defenders of Ukraine, Athletes, and Workers of the Sectors Serhiy BYZOV took the initiative in holding this event and, opening the discussion, emphasized that “The main priority today is the social and legal protection of union members who are military personnel».
The following participants also took an active part in the round table: Yulia KIRILLOVA – Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine; Vitaliy LAVROV – Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine for Digital Development, Digital Transformation, and Digitalization; Anatoliy OSTAPENKO – People’s Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Social Protection of Veterans’ Rights of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Social Policy and Protection of Veterans’ Rights; Hennadiy KASAI – People’s Deputy of Ukraine, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence; Yaroslav DOBRYANSKYI – Acting Head of the Kyiv Regional Administration; Marina DYAKOVSKA – Deputy Head of the Department, Head of the Social Support Department for Veterans and Combatants of the Kyiv City Veteran Policy Department; Oleksandr NAGORNYI – Central Directorate for the Protection of Servicemen’s Rights of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine; Oleh TKACHUK – judge of the Grand Chamber of the Supreme Court, scientific secretary of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Supreme Court, Doctor of Law, associate professor; Natalia TKACHENKO – Director of the Department of Expert Support of Justice of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine; Hryhoriy OSOVYY – head of the Federation of Trade Unions of Ukraine; Marina STAVNIYCHUK – the head of the Committee on the Rule of Law of the National Association of Advocates of Ukraine, as well as representatives of trade unions, the deputy corps of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, military and law enforcement agencies, government authorities, and public organizations, research institutions, etc.
The purpose of the round table was to develop a coordinated position on the need to amend the current legislation of Ukraine regarding the legal support for the implementation of the right of servicemen to membership in trade unions in accordance with the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine.
The work of the round table was conducted in the following areas: the accumulated experience of trade unions in Ukraine in protecting the labor and socio-economic rights and guarantees of citizens; the main principles of regulating trade union activities in the Armed Forces of Ukraine: legal, ethical, and social aspects; international experience and international standards of servicemen’s participation in trade unions; effective mechanisms for protecting the socio-economic rights of servicemen through trade unions; organization of further cooperation and interaction and, as a result, the improvement of the system of state bodies that provide social protection for servicemen at the legislative level.
