Solemn meeting of the Academic Council of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the occasion of awarding the honorary title of Doctor Honoris Causa to Oleksandr Skrypnyuk
On May 22, 2026, a solemn extended meeting of the Academic Council was held at the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine on the occasion of awarding an honorary title Doctor Honoris Causa Oleksandr Vasylovych Skrypnyuk — to the Director of the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Head of the Department of History of State and Law of Ukraine, Vice President of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the NALS of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine.
The event was attended by members of the University Academic Council, representatives of the scientific community, scientific and pedagogical workers, students, as well as honorary guests and partners of the higher education institution.
Opening the meeting, the rector of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Yuriy Boshytskyi he emphasized that the awarding of an honorary title is a recognition of a significant personal contribution to the development of legal science, the formation of modern Ukrainian statehood, constitutionalism, and legal education in Ukraine.
Oleksandr Skrypniuk has for many years maintained fruitful scientific and professional collaboration with the university, actively contributing to the development of its educational, scientific, and academic activities. Over the years, he has chaired state examination commissions, making a significant contribution to the training of highly qualified lawyers, improving the system of legal education, and shaping high professional standards.
Many years of interaction with university scientists are reflected in joint research, participation in scientific and practical conferences, round tables, and professional discussions aimed at the development of legal science and modern legal education.
During the ceremony, the decision of the Academic Council to confer the honorary title was announced Doctor Honoris CausaThe rector solemnly presented the respective awards — a diploma, a robe, and a badge.
In his scientific report, the newly appointed honorary doctor raised pressing issues concerning the development of modern legal science and constitutionalism in Ukraine, which sparked a lively discussion among the participants of the meeting.
The questions to the speaker were raised by the Vice-Rector for Educational and Methodological Work Serhiy Matviev, Head of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure Valeriy Andrusiv, Head of the Department of International and Private Law Vitalii ChernegaFirst- and second-year students also took an active part.
In response to the speeches and questions, the speaker thanked the university staff for the high honor and emphasized the importance of consolidating the scientific community for the development of Ukrainian legal science, strengthening the rule of law, and establishing European legal values.
The participants of the event noted his many years of scientific, pedagogical, and organizational activity, his significant contribution to the development of constitutional law, historical and legal research, as well as his active participation in the training of highly qualified legal personnel.
The ceremonial meeting of the Academic Council became an important event in the academic life of the university and another confirmation of its high authority in the scientific and educational space of Ukraine.
After the solemn ceremony of awarding the honorary title, the participants of the event visited the Yuri Serhiyovych Shemshuchenko Museum of Contemporary Legal Thought, during which they became acquainted with its exhibition and continued substantive communication, discussing current issues in the development of legal science and education in Ukraine.
