The International Scientific and Practical Conference ‘The European Union and European Integration of Ukraine in the Era of Global Challenges’ took place

On May 28–29, 2026, an International Scientific and Practical Conference took place in the city of Cluj-Napoca (Romania) “The European Union and Ukraine’s European Integration in the Era of Global Challenges”.

The organizers of the event were the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Faculty of European Studies of Babeș-Bolyai University, and the Center for Ukrainian-European Scientific Cooperation.

The purpose of the conference was to discuss the current challenges and prospects of Ukraine’s European integration, to exchange scientific and practical achievements in the fields of law, politics, economics, and education, as well as to develop international academic cooperation.

The conference was attended by scientific and pedagogical workers as well as representatives of state authorities and practitioners, who discussed the legal, political, and socio-economic aspects of Ukraine’s European integration in the context of modern global challenges.

Co-chairs of the organizing committee:

Yuriy Boshytskyi – Rector of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, professor, academician of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine;

Adrian-Gabriel Corpadean – Dean of the Faculty of European Studies at Babeș-Bolyai University, habilitated doctor, professor.

  • Raisa Perelygina – Associate Professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure, Head of the Postgraduate Program, Candidate of Legal Sciences;
  • Tetyana Yaroshevska – head of the scientific library.
  • Conference moderator  From KUL NASU, Doctor of Law, Associate Professor, Academician of APPN of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Vice-Rector for Research of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania, spoke Volodymyr Pylypenko.

The work of the conference sections was carried out online using modern means of remote communication, which ensured active participation of scientific and pedagogical staff from Ukraine and other countries. This format contributed to effective international scientific dialogue and the exchange of scientific and practical achievements.

Within the framework of the conference, the following were presented scientific reports:

  • Yuriy BOSHYTSKYI, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Rector of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Iryna Sopilko – Doctor of Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Advisor to the Rector of Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: Legal Aspects of Civil Service Modernization in the Context of Ukraine’s Recovery Paradigm;
  • Volodymyr Pylypenko – Doctor of Law, Associate Professor, Academician of the AAPN of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, Vice-Rector for Scientific Work at KUL NASU, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania – presented a scientific report: “The Nuremberg Principles as a Legal Basis for the Establishment of a Special International Tribunal for the Punishment of the Crime of Aggression Against Ukraine”;
  • Ivana Vashchynetsia – candidate of juridical sciences, associate professor, Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: “Artificial Intelligence and the Three-Stage Test: Using Works for Machine Learning”;
  • Olena Romanova’s – Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of General Theoretical Legal and Socio-Humanitarian Disciplines at KUL NASU: «Features of the Implementation of Academic Mobility in Ukraine in Conditions of Wartime and Digitalization of Education»;
  • Volodymyr Pavlov, senior lecturer of the Department of General Theoretical Legal and Socio-Humanitarian Disciplines, Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: “Formation of Intercultural Communicative Competence in the Context of the European Educational Space”;
  • Kostiantyn Borodin, a lecturer in the Department of General Theoretical Legal and Socio-Humanitarian Disciplines at the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: “Dialogue between civil society and the state as an important prerequisite for the successful European integration of modern Ukraine”;
  • Roman Serhienko – a postgraduate student, head of the charitable foundation ‘Let’s Change Our Lives’: “Legal Policy and Socio-Economic Aspects in Ukraine in the Context of European Integration”.

Based on the results of the conference, the participants noted the high scientific level of the presented reports, their relevance, and practical significance for the development of modern legal science and the educational process in the context of Ukraine’s European integration.

The importance of the further development of international academic partnership between higher education institutions in Ukraine and the European Union countries, the expansion of joint scientific research, the implementation of inter-university projects, as well as the activation of academic mobility, was separately emphasized.

An important event on the first day of the conference was the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Faculty of European Studies of Babeș-Bolyai University, and the Center for Ukrainian-European Scientific Cooperation. The concluded agreement formalizes the parties’ intentions regarding long-term partnership, the development of joint scientific and educational projects, the expansion of academic exchanges, and the strengthening of international cooperation.

The conference became an important platform for professional dialogue, contributed to the strengthening of scientific connections, and the formation of new directions of cooperation in the fields of law, politics, economics, and social sciences.
