The Museum of Contemporary Legal Thought of KUL NASU has been replenished with a new exhibit
On July 7, 2026, a significant event took place at the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The university staff gathered at the Museum of Contemporary Legal Thought named after Academician Yuriy Serhiyovych Shemshuchenko, established within the university on the initiative of the rector, Professor of KUL NASU. Yuriy Boshytskyi, to honor the memory of the outstanding scientist, jurist, and the first rector of the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, academician Yuriy Serhiyovych Shemshuchenko.
During the event, the rector of the university, Yuriy Boshytskyi, and a senior lecturer of the Department of International and Private Law Mykhailo Ponomarenko, caring about the development of the museum, transferred to its collection a graphic work by the artist Mykhailo Zharov from 2010 depicting Academician Yuriy Shemshuchenko.
Yuriy Serhiyovych Shemshuchenko — Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, full holder of the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise. His role in shaping modern Ukrainian legal science, developing higher legal education, and establishing the national legal doctrine is difficult to overestimate. He was a person who knew how to combine scientific integrity, strategic vision, foresight, and constant initiative.
The Museum of Contemporary Legal Thought named after Academician Yuriy Shemshuchenko is a unique scientific and educational space. It provides an opportunity to learn more about the life, scientific, and creative path of the scholar, about the evolution of contemporary legal thought in Ukraine, the formation of the national legal system of views, and the intellectual environment in which his ideas were developed.
It is actively used in the university’s career guidance work, introducing school youth and future applicants to contemporary legal thought and the scientific heritage of the scholar. The university has also decided to publish a booklet dedicated to the nine museums created at the initiative of Rector Yuriy Boshytskyi, for young people interested in law and planning to study at KUL NASU.
The university staff hopes that the museum will continue to be enriched with new exhibits, develop further, and attract the attention of all those who value Ukrainian legal science, its history, and its future. It is important that this is supported by the charitable contributions of patrons, university partners, and everyone concerned with preserving Ukraine’s scientific heritage!
