A scientific-practical seminar on the topic: ‘Features of the activity of the Council of the European Union’ was held at KUL NASU
On November 15, 2023, a scientific-practical seminar on the topic took place at the Kyiv University of Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine: “Features of the Activities of the Council of the European Union” which was organized and conducted by the associate professor of the Department of International Law and Sectoral Legal Disciplines By Oleksandr Radziwill.
The seminar was attended by first (bachelor’s) level higher education students of specialty 293 ‘International Law’, who prepared substantive reports with presentations and conducted a meaningful discussion of them.
Prepared and conducted presentations:
Chuba Diana on the topic: General characteristics of the EU Council, where she provided a brief overview of the development of this institution within the Communities, and gave a characterization of the features of representation and the formation of the Council and the directions of its activities, institutionalized in the configurations of the Council, in accordance with the Lisbon Treaty.
Onvuemeli Naomi on the topic: “Voting Procedures in the Council of the European Union”, which highlighted the features of implementing the key function of the Council – making decisions of a legislative and non-legislative nature. General requirements for transparency in decision-making are defined, and exceptions are provided, the grounds and conditions for voting in the Council are characterized: unanimously and by a simple and qualified majority
Each presentation was accompanied by a discussion and highlighting of other issues regarding the organization and activities of the Council in its various configurations in their interconnection and in the context of the subject of the presentations.
The conducted event confirmed that the communicative form of information assimilation, that is, the possibility to comprehend the material in a multifaceted way during discussion, as well as to develop skills of cognitive dialogue on a specific topic, is well implemented based on creatively prepared thematic presentations.
